I'm running a fundraiser for local home funerals - can you help?
Good morning Gentle Reader.
I am not in the habit of asking for help, however I am currently running a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to help me purchase a cold plate that can be used by clients and local community members who wish to have a home funeral, or to spend some time with a loved one before they go for cremation or burial.
The donation page is here: https://www.gofundme.com/cold-plate-for-home-funerals I am trying to defray some of the $4200.00 for purchase and shipping; this is an excellent price as several End of Life Doulas from around Australia are making a bulk order via a colleague who is currently in Europe.
$4200AUD sounds like a lot of money - well, yes it is - however it is less than half the cost of a cold bed available for purchase from an Australian manufacturer, so I think this is money well spent.
At this point in time we do not have a local cold plate, making arrangements for home funerals and wakes harder to organise than they really should be. A round trip of 3-4 hours is currently the reality as we must either go to Sydney or Newcastle for a cold plate - when you consider that Australian law dictates cooling must be in place within eight hours of death, you can see that having cold be equipment that is available locally saves a good deal of stress and time.
Please consider donating if you are able to - all donations are gratefully accepted, and every bit makes a huge difference. Thank you. Please also share widely if you can - again, thank you very much.
Are you wondering how a cold plate works at home? I have a massage table with adjustable height options that makes accessibility easy, or you can slip the plate under a sheet on a regular bed under the body. Whatever works best for you in your home environment.
If you would like to know more about arranging a home funeral or how to transport a body home from a nursing home or hospital to use a cold plate, please get in touch. I am happy to answer your questions and walk you through your best options.
